Books for Young Adults

I found the contribution from your panel of young adults refreshing.

I'm 26 and for the first time in a long time I thought about Trixie Belden, a 16 year-old girl detective. I have never read a Nancy Drew novel and was never interested. (I have a hard time with anything that is over-hyped.) So my mom set out to find me soemthing different. She found a Trixie Belden novel at the local Frenchy's. I was hooked and begged my mother for more. She hit yard sales, the library and even order in a few from the bookstore. The trouble with finding these books was that the first novel was published in 1948, but still my mother prevailed and I have a decent sized collection stored away in her attic. I haven't read one since I was 14, but now that you've got me thinking about them, I might have to get her to dig me out a couple. Thanks a bunch~!

Thanks for the look at young adult fiction. Seems like it's been around a while, even for guys.

If you get to the right online forums (Hokey Ass Message Board for one) you'll find some remembering Henry Gregor Felsen's novels that focused on cars. Also a hard-boiled veteran William Campbell Gault put out car racing fiction.

Recent Canadian additions to the genre include Andrew Hampshire (Full Throttle), Pam Withers (Dirtbike Daredevils) and Jacqueline Guest (Racing Fear).

Guys don't just have Harry Potter for reading material.

I really enjoyed listening to the interview with Ms Khan - going to try to find the book "Wanting Mor" to read. Just the information she provided during the interview grabbed my interest and I am sure the book will too - thankyou
