About this Report

The National examines the role of counterterrorism, security & civil rights after 9/11.

The 9/11 attacks spawned two wars - in Iraq and Afghanistan. They also resulted in billions spent on Homeland Security in the United States, new terror legislation and border security measures for the U.S. and Canada, and a decade of suspicion and often hostility towards Arabs and Muslims in the U.S., Canada and beyond.

As the debate continues on how best to stamp out the terrorist threat and keep North America safe, The National presents its coverage of the impact of some of the controversial actions taken in this regard on the people and places they have touched; from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to the southern islands of the Phillippines, and to the city most devastated by the attacks, New York. Adrienne Arsenault, Nahlah Ayed, Neil Macdonald and Havard Gould provide the bulk of our coverage on this subject.
