About this Report

Adrienne Arsenault reports on a growing problem in Canada's immigration system.

Adrienne Arsenault speaks with members of B.C.'s Punjabi community to expose the problem of so-called marriages of convenience, where Canadian citizens, either innocently or intentionally, marry foreigners whose goal it is to swap cash for Canadian residency status.

Documents obtained by CBC News under the Access to Information Act indicate that Citizenship and Immigration Canada is ill-equipped to deal with marriage fraud, with few government officers dedicated to rooting out the problem. That's in spite of cabinet minister Jason Kenney's public pronouncements that his department wants to crack down on this abuse of the immigration system.
