Peter Mansbridge began our coverage with a special program from The Forks in Winnipeg, marking the first of seven national Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada events aimed at addressing the painful legacy of the placement of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit children in residential schools across the country. Over the coming weeks, we will continue to follow the work of the Commission, and its impact on the lives of the people it touches.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada has been given the responsibility of:

Telling Canadians what happened in the Indian Residential Schools;

Honouring the lives of former students and their families; and

Creating a permanent record of the Indian Residential School legacy.

At the 2010 RTNDA Awards, Wabanakwut (Wab) Kinew's very personal report 'Surviving the Survivors' won the Adrienne Clarkson Award. Wab shared the story of how residential schools had affected the lives of three generations in his family. This award is given to the story or series that best exemplifies or explores an issue of diversity.
