About this Report

Science and Sovereignty and Relocation Remembrance are feature stories by Duncan McCue about Canada's efforts to define and defend its northern border.

Science and Sovereignty

With a 2013 deadline fast approaching, Duncan McCue travels to Resolute, Nunavut, to discover how a team of geologists and scientists are using the latest high tech gear in an effort to define Canada's continental shelf and the limits of our sovereign territory in the North.

Relocation Remembrance

In the midst of the Cold War, dozens of Inuit people were forcibly relocated from northern Quebec to Resolute Bay and Grise Fiord, part of a federal government initiative to populate and thereby protect its claim on Arctic lands north of Canada. Inuit carver Simeonie Amagoalik was part of the High Arctic Relocation Project, and he is creating a monument to ensure that this part of history is not forgotten.
