About this Report

Photographer Peter Power captured these photographs of writer Ian Brown and his disabled son, Walker. It was part of the Globe and Mail's documentary series looking at children with cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome, or CFC, and their families. That 2007 series Boy in the Moon became the basis of Ian's book released this fall. Power spent time with Walker, Ian, and his wife Johanna, at different times of the day and over several months. As much as the series was generally about kids with CFC, Power says what emerged was a story about Walker and the relationship with his father. Johanna believes Walker's engagement with the camera had a lot to do with Power and the connection he managed to make with her son.
