About this Report

The National's coverage of the prosecution of Omar Khadr.

For years, a battle has been brewing over the fate of Omar Khadr, the young Canadian held at Guantanamo Bay, alleged to have ties to al-Qaeda, and charged with war crimes in relation to the death of American soldier Christopher Speer in Afghanistan.

Then, on October 25, 2010, during his trial in front of a military commission in Guantanamo Bay, Omar Khadr entered a plea of guilty to five war crimes, including murder and conspiracy, as part of a deal that will see him spend no more than 8 years in prison, much of that possibly in Canada.
