About this Report
Pediatric infectious disease specialist Dr. Ashley Roberts answers your questions about the impact of H1N1 on children, adults, and expectant mothers.
PRE-EXISTING CONDITION
Subject: Child with Type 1 diabetes and swine flu risks
How does the risk factor change for my 9-year-old-son being that he has type one diabetes? Have there been any reports of people that are high risk and how swine flu has affected them differently? I have read about the rare disease that can be caused by the vaccinations as well. How new is this vaccine and how will the risks attributed to the vaccine affect him? I really don't know if I want to get him vaccinated with all this controversial information but I am not finding much out there and any insight is very appreciated.
Thank you,

ADJUVANT VS. NON-ADJUVANT
Why is the non-adjuvant form of the H1N1 vaccine being given only to pregnant women?
I think that it is great that they are being protected, but if there is any reason to doubt the adjuvant form, why are the rest of us not protected and being offered the non-adjuvant one too.
Thanks,
Isabel

Also does the Canadian vaccine use a ""dead"" version of the virus versus the ""live"" version used in the US?

FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS 1
I have a family of 5 and we have all had flu-like symptoms for the last week, (fever lasting approx 2days, dry cough, aches and body pain, headaches these symptoms came on very quickly and we have remained house bound in order to prevent spreading of the virus) we have not received the seasonal flu shot or the H1N1 shot, should we receive the H1N1 shot once everyone in my family is healthy again?
Or should we pass on having the H1N1 shot?

FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS 2
My child has not yet been vaccinated for neither the seasonal or the H1N1 virus. He spent the last 4 days with classic flu symptoms and has fully recovered. Is the still a need to vaccinated or will natural body defenses have kicked in?

REGULAR FLU VS. H1N1 FLU
Is my healthy child at any greater risk of dying from H1N1 than from any other regular seasonal flu virus?

TAMIFLU
I woke up this morning feeling unwell with several flu symptoms. I called my doctor and he was able to phone the pharmacist with a prescription of Tamiflu and had someone pick it up for me. My question is how long should I stay at home before I can go back in public, and to work? Would five days be sufficient to ensure I am not infecting anyone else?

EFFECTIVENESS
How long does it take the flu shot to become effective?
AND
How soon after a vaccination for H1N1 is a person immune from an exposure to the virus?Watch
AGE (BABIES)
I have a premature baby aged four and half month old. Is it safe to give H1N1 flu vaccine? We are anxious and worried. Kindly advise us.Watch
CHILDREN AND TWO SHOTS
Since children need to get two shots, are they protected after the first? How far apart will the two vaccines need to be?
Should your child be immunized, if he/she already had the H1N1?

NOT GETTING IT?
What are the risks associated with the H1N1 vaccine? (long-term and short time) I am healthy and 20, I am leaning more towards NOT getting vaccinated.
Thank youWatch
