Citizenship and Immigration Canada appears to be fast-tracking a Surrey man's application for a travel document, after a CBC News story showed how delays and red tape were preventing him from returning home to the Netherlands to care for his mother.
Art Witmans had been waiting three months for the renewal of his permanent resident card. Like all landed immigrants, if he travels outside Canada, he needs the card to re-enter the country.
He needed to travel to return home to care for his mother, who lives alone in the Netherlands and has dementia. He said she is no longer safe, and he must travel there immediately to get her the care she needs.
