Two Geminis for The National

The 25th Annual Gemini Awards for Documentary, Lifestyle, News and Sports were held in Toronto last night, and we're pleased and proud that CBC News The National took home two trophies.

In the category of Best News Information Segment, producer Carmen Merrifield, editor Sheldon Beldick and cameraman Andy Hincenbergs won for their feature The Boy in the Moon, about writer Ian Brown and his experiences raising his severely disabled son, Walker.

The news coverage of the earthquake in Haiti by Paul Hunter and Bill Loucks was also singled out in the Best Breaking Reportage, National category, in part for their story of a makeshift hospital that prompted Air Canada to make a special delivery of supplies to Port-au-Prince.
