Our broadcast online

Among a lot of other comments posted to yesterday's blog (which others here at the show will address in the coming days), some of you wrote in asking why you can't download the full broadcast of The National.  There's a simple answer to that question.

The fact is that we don't have all the rights to all of the material you see on The National broadcast, which often includes still images and video or film shot by other agencies.  We have agreements to broadcast that material on television, but we don't always have the right to podcast it.  There's a cost to getting extensive rights to video footage and stills, and, in some cases, it can be prohibitive.

That's part of the reason why we created the 10-minute The National On Demand, which is available each weekday as a podcast.  It isn't the entire show, but it does contain a selection of some of the day's top news stories, usually domestic ones, presented by journalists at The National.  And it's available earlier in the day, which we hope adds another element of convenience for you.  You can subscribe to our podcast of The National On Demand here.

For those of you having difficulty finding the on-demand stream of our nightly broadcast, you can watch it on The National website, or in CBC's video player

If you have any other web-related questions or comments, I'd be happy to answer them.  So ask away.
