Chantal Hébert
Montreal
Chantal Hébert is a National Affairs Writer with the Toronto Star and is a columnist with Le Devoir and L'Actualité, and has been a weekly contributor to The National's At Issue panel since its inception in 2001. She says she first began to take Parliament seriously after watching the House of Commons vote on restoring capital punishment, and she has spent the 22 years since then covering politics.
Hébert attended Toronto’s first francophone public high school, and later went on to get a BA from Glendon College of York University and is a Senior Fellow of Massey College at University of Toronto.
Her career started out at Radio-Canada, covering politics first in Queen's Park and later, on Parliament Hill. She then worked as Bureau Chief for Le Devoir and La Presse.
Hébert is a self-proclaimed morning person who enjoys travelling off the beaten path around the world when she's not covering politics at home.
