High energy costs, a crashing economy... It's been a rocky couple of years for manufacturing in Canada.

So, here at The House, we wanted to give our listeners a refresher course in the ups and downs -- let's be honest, mostly downs -- of recent manufacturing history.

We'll start our journey in June 2007, when the major challenge facing Canadian manufacturers wasn't a global recession, it was high fuel prices and the skyrocketing Canadian dollar. Thousands of unionized workers rallied on Parliament Hill -- urging the government to action on job losses.
