The Bio

If there's such a thing as royalty in Canadian film and television, Don McKellar is a part of it.

Born and raised in Toronto, Don started collaborating with director Bruce McDonald in 1987, writing and starring in some of Bruce's early films - 'Roadkill' and 'Highway 61', and then co-writing his hit Canadian movie 'Dance Me Outside.'  Those films put Don on the map, and helped create a renaissance in Canadian film.

From there, Don appeared in Atom Egoyan's 'Exotica', David Cronenberg's 'Existenz', and in 1998, he developed the CBC comedy series 'Twitch City.'  That same year, Don wrote, directed and starred in the film, 'Last Night', an apocalyptic look at the end of the world - that went on to win an award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Then, Don wrote and starred with Samuel L. Jackson in 'The Red Violin', and later adapted Jose Saramago's Nobel Prize winning novel 'Blindness' for the big screen.

Now, Don is set to star in a new film - a satire about a Canadian diplomat and her chef husband who are posted in New Delhi.  It's called 'Cooking With Stella'.
