The world is in the throes of an economic meltdown, but does the downturn have an upside? This week, Montreal stand-up Scott Faulconbridge is out to prove to comedian Harry Doupe that this recession ain’t so depressin’. Next up on our double bill of laughs, “That Canadian Guy,” Glen Foster tries to convince “Funny Mommy” Kate Davis that if a license is required to keep a dog, drive a car and catch a trout, a license should be required to have kids. As always our topics are fertile grounds for comedy. Tune in to hear our debaters give birth to a delightful combination of facts and funny. The Debaters airs Saturday at 11:30 am on Radio One.

It’s Football Season and Canadians across the country are cheering our unique game of three downs and that extra point for a missed field goal. But is our quirky version of pro ball any better than the NFL? This week New York comic Darryl Lenox is out to trounce funny guy Tim Steeves and prove to our Regina audience that the NFL beats the CFL every time. Next up on our comedy double bill, veteran comic Mike MacDonald battles newcomer Nick Beaton on the topic of restaurants and whether the chain and franchise operations are superior to the mom and pop eateries. As always, The Debaters dishes up a tantalizing mix of funny and fact. Gather round the radio and dig in. Saturday at 11:30 am on Radio One.

This week the real Celine Dion (as channeled by Celine impersonator Laura Landauer graces our stage to prove to Much Music’s Trevor Boris that there is no better person to spread the “lurv” than this chest-pounding diva. Next up on our entertainment extravaganza, This Hour has Twenty-Two Minutes’, Shaun Majumder battles fellow mixed-race comedian Nile Seguin over whether growing up bi-racial gives you a head start in this country. Yes, this week we celebrate the many flavours of Canada, including a little Quebecoise cheese. The Debaters this Saturday at 11:30.

It's autumn in Canada and you know what that means - men are armed and moose are nervous. This week hunter and comedian Pete Zedlacher takes pot shots at gun shy Erica Sigurdson as he tries to convince our live audience that hunting is a great Canadian pastime. Also on the bill, a slightly paranoid Roman Danylo tries to prove to Calgary funny lady Rebecca Northan that our obsession with eliminating germs is completely justified. The Debaters is all about man versus Mother Nature, and the women are definitely siding with mom. This Wednesday at 11:30 am.

There’s no debating that the world is an economic and ecological mess. But, are baby boomers to blame? This week, bombastic boomers Bob Robertson and Linda Cullen of “Double Exposure” fame, debate this post war generation and whether their hippie/yippie/yuppie ways were a boon to society or a bust. Next up on our double bill of topics that begin with the letter “b”, bodybuilding is deconstructed as weightlifter Aaron Berg tries to prove to weakling Charlie Demers [duh-MARES] that the price you pay for washboard abs and buns of steel is just too high. For belly laughs that are guaranteed to smooth and tone those flabby love handles, tune in to the Debaters this Saturday July 4th at 11:30 am

Oh, Canada!

For Canada Day The Debaters asks the question: Are Goose and Beaver as powerful as Eagle and Uncle Sam? The Debaters is in Ottawa this week as American ex-pat, DeAnne Smith, tries to prove to comic Pete Zedlacher that Canada’s symbols beat the American ones by a country kilometre.
Next up, Toronto funnyman Dan Redican is on a mission to convince freedom of speech advocate Darren Frost that our society could use a little more censorship.
As usual The Debaters delivers completely uncensored radio comedy. And if you have a problem with that, well, you can just “shut the front door.” That’s The Debaters this Wednesday at 11:30 on CBC Radio One.

Surveys have identified Newfoundland and Labrador as the most sexually active province. We're in St. John's this week as local celeb, Cathy Jones (This Hour has 22 Minutes) tries to convince fellow "townie" Jonny Harris that the stats don't lie -- Newfoundlanders are just plain sexy!
Also on our double bill of facts and funny, comedienne and former car flogger, Carrie Gaetz is out to prove to Detroit detractor Chuck Byrn that we should pity the plight of the poor car salesperson.
As usual The Debaters get plenty of comedy mileage from a couple of fully-loaded topics. Catch all the action Saturday at 11:30- am and Monday at 8:30 pm on Radio One.

Fisticuffs and Young Offenders

Are fistfights a reasonable way to solve a dispute? This week pugnacious pugilist Rob Pue lets loose a volley of verbal punches as he tries to make Bruce Clarke admit that real men answer the bell. Also on this week’s funny fight card, Canadian comedy legend Mike Bullard is out to prove to Irwin “The Professor” Barker that Young Offenders Legislation is misguided and that all teens should be tried as adults. Who ages better - men or women? This week, fit and funny female Teresa Pavlinek (The Jane Show) tries to prove to well-aged wit, John Wing (Just for Laughs), that when it comes to spots, sags and senility, females come out on top.
Next up on our double bill of laughs and logic, funnyman Dean Jenkinson tries to put a crack in computer game nut, Tim Nutt's argument that video games teach important life skills.

This week, The statuesque Karen O’Keefe tries to prove to vertically challenged comedian, Scott Faulconbridge, that tall women should always ‘overlook’ short men. Also on our double bill of laughs and logic, Caribbean Canadian Gilson Lubin and South Asian Canadian Ali Rizvi go toe to toe on the topic of multiculturalism and whether visible minorities becoming the majority in Canada is going to be a good thing. Yes, The Debaters is celebrating Canada’s diversity and we prove yet again that no matter your colour or your height, you’ll always have a place on our show – as long as you’re funny and as long as you can reach the microphone. The show airs Saturday at 11:30 am and Monday at 8:30 pm on Radio One.
