Part Two of The Current
Mayors & Flood Panel
Manitoba has faced devastating floods before. We aired some news stories from 1950, 1966, 1979 and 1997 and there have been others. But this morning, the province is facing some of the worst flooding in its history. Shari Decter Hirst is the Mayor of Brandon, one of the cities most threatened by the fury of the Assiniboine River. She was in Brandon. And Susan Thompson was the Mayor of Winnipeg from 1992 to 1998. For 21 days in the spring of 1997 she had to deal with what was described as the Flood of the Century. Susan Thompson is now the President & CEO of The University of Winnipeg Foundation. She was in Winnipeg.
