Panel: Tom McLaughlin / Dr. Andrew Padmos
More than four million Canadians can't find a family doctor. That's more than one in every ten people in the country. And yet, Canadian medical schools are turning out more physicians than ever before ... and a growing number of those doctors can't find jobs.
That disconnect has concerned the medical community for some time. And now, a group of medical students is calling on the federal government to take a more active role in dealing with it.
Tom McLaughlin is the Vice-President for Advocacy with the Canadian Federation of Medical Students. He's also a graduating student at the University of Toronto's medical school and he was in our Toronto studio.
And Doctor Andrew Padmos is the CEO of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He was in Ottawa.
Listen here to an interview with Dr. Walid Hamam who spoke with CBC's White Coat, Black Art host Brian Goldman about his job search. White Coat, Black Art also spoke about this issue of unemployed doctors with Dr. Lou Francescutti, President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, here is that interview.
