Post-Poned Pardon - Chris Conrad, Waiting for Pardon
We started this segment with a clip from Public Safety Minister Vic Toews speaking in 2010. Chris Conrad would agree that government isn't a forgiving business. He's a 25-year-old man from Milton, Nova Scotia and he thinks Ottawa's tough new crime bill has been particularly tough on him.
Chris Conrad was 19 when he was convicted of selling marijuana. He served his time, and then turned his life around, even attending university. After five years of waiting, he wanted a pardon to erase his past mistakes. But just as he became eligible to apply, new legislation was passed that forces him to wait another five years.
Chris Conrad was at his home in Milton, Nova Scotia.
Post-Poned Pardon - John Howard Society of Canada
Catherine Latimer opposes the changes to the pardon system too. She's the executive director of the John Howard Society of Canada and she was in Ottawa.
Post-Poned Pardon - Federal Justice Minister Parliamentary Secretary
Kerry-Lynne Findlay has been listening in. She's a Conservative MP for Delta-Richmond East and the parliamentary secretary to the Federal Justice Minister. She was in Ottawa.
