Part Three of The Current

The remarkable legal career of Kim Motley

A rape victim in Afghanistan can be advised by a judge to marry her attacker.
A member of a religious minority can be imprisoned and forced to convert to Islam.
A foreigner can face charges that can be persuaded to "go away" for the appropriate bribe.

Kim Motley has defended those kind of clients in Kabul's courts. If the cases sound remarkable, they're no more remarkable than Kim Motley herself. The former beauty queen is the only foreign lawyer litigating within the Afghan justice system. She takes on both corporate clients and human rights cases. Kim Motley is in Calgary this week - raising money for a new foundation to help her take on more human rights clients. She was in our studio there.

Last Word - Prison Stories Promo

Queen Victoria was just a princess when the first inmate shuffled into Kingston Prison. And now, the federal government believes the pen has done its time. Over the years, the prison has been home to some of the very worst people this country has ever coughed up.

While many of the prison's inmates are best forgotten, some of the prison's stories are unforgettable. We'll be telling a few tomorrow. But we're also hoping for a little...inside...information. On today's Last Word, producer Shannon Higgins wants to hear your stories.
