Minor hockey players - Panel

Another year of minor hockey is under way. And fans may notice the players aren't mixing it up as much this year. There are new rules about headshots with penalties for intentional and accidental hits to the head. It's designed to keep players safer and perhaps do something about declining registrations.

For the second year in a row, fewer Canadian kids are signing up for the game. Since superstar Sidney Crosby was sidelined 8 months ago with a concussion, players and their parents worry about dangerous hits to the head. Some think the game has entered a new era.

IToday we heard from three young players all affected by the new minor hockey rules. Tyler Sandhu plays Major Midget hockey with the Greater Vancouver Canadians. Karolina Urban is the Captain of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. And Cole Grekul plays for a midget Triple A team: The Maple Leafs Athletic Club - and he attends the hockey program at Vimy Ridge Academy in Edmonton.
