We began the program this morning with the news that Jack Layton has lost his battle with cancer. The leader of the NDP and the Official Opposition died this morning. He was 61. Today we pay tribute to Jack Layton's legacy.

Remembering Jack Layton (1950-2011)

A few weeks ago, he told Canadians he was fighting a new battle with cancer. This morning, Jack Layton, leader of the Federal Opposition lost that battle. Layton died in his Toronto home shortly before 5am, he was surrounded by his loved ones. He was 61 years old. Jack Layton was well-known to be a fighter on the political stage and off. But he was also a friend to many and a colleague.

To remember Jack Layton, we were joined by Ed Broadbent, former leader of the NDP, our host Anna Maria Tremonti was also in our studio this morning. And we were also joined by Brian Topp, president of the Federal NDP and Shirley Douglas, daughter of Tommy Douglas. She also campaigned for Jack Layton during his time when he was entering federal politics.
