The Royal Kiss - Nancy Durham
We started this segment with a clip from Judy Wade, Royal Editor for Hello! Magazine speaking of the royal kiss between Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
Earlier this morning, Prince William and Kate Middleton kissed on the Buckingham Palace balcony as did Lady Di and Prince Charles in 1981 ... some would say with considerably less awkwardness.
After a brief reception hosted by the Queen Elizabeth, the newly married couple -- now officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge -- stepped out onto the balcony at Buckingham Palace and delivered the most highly anticipated royal kiss in a generation.
The CBC's Nancy Durham witnessed the event from outside the gates at Buckingham Palace and she joined us by phone.
The Royal Kiss - Sheril Kirshenbaum
When it came time for their first public kiss, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had at least one thing going for them ... the fact that the protocol for royal kissing has loosened up over the years - after Charles and Diana's "ground breaking" public display of affection 30 years ago. We heard from Judy Wade, the Royals Editor of Hello! Magazine on royal kisses.
On the heels of one of the most famous meeting of the lips witnessed around the globe.. what better occasion to go to the woman who wrote the book on kissing... literally. Sheril Kirshenbaum is the author of The Science of Kissing. She was in Durham, North Carolina.
Of course royals aren't the only people who have memorable smooches in their romantic or family histories. We asked a couple of those connected with The Current for some good stories of their own ...beginning with our producer Howard Goldenthal and then Caroline Goldhar.
