If this is Thursday it must be mail day. This morning Anna Maria was joined by Lara O'Brien. She's one of our producers. And we've dragged her out of the control room and into the hot seat to help with letters.
Global Food Prices: Last week, the United Nations' Food and Agricultural Organization released its latest food price index. It showed that last month, world food prices had reached their highest levels since 1990. And many experts say those rising costs have contributed to the unrest we've seen around the world - including Egypt. Tuesday on The Current, we looked at world food prices - and asked why they're soaring. Then we heard from you.
The Common Ground Cafe: Well food and politics came together in another story this week but in this case, in bringing people together. The Common Ground Cafe is an experiment initiated by our CBC colleagues in Thunder Bay, Ontario. They invited people from the aboriginal and non-aboriginal communities to discuss the divide between them while cooking and eating a meal together. There were four dinners in total, with six guests at each. After hearing this story, listeners shared their thoughts. That's it for this mail day but we've got another mail day coming up next Thursday, so send us your thoughts on what you hear on the program in the coming week.
Theo Fleury - Friday Host
We started this segment with a clip of former NHL all-star Theo Fleury during his hockey heyday. More recently, of course, he's moved off the sports pages - and onto the front page - for something else. In his autobiography Playing with Fire, Theo revealed that he was sexually abused and named his junior hockey coach, Graham James. He opened up about his behind-the-scenes struggle to come to grips with that past. Theo Fleury is our Friday Host this week. And he joined Anna Maria in studio today.
