PART THREE

Demographic Fear - Barry McLerran

We started this segment with a clip from a trailer for a documentary called Demographic Winter: The Decline of the Human Family. It is produced by The Family First Foundation, an American organization that says it works to protect the family as the fundamental unit of society.

The documentary looks at demographic trends and paints a troubling picture of a future with more elderly people, fewer children, economic decline and social stagnation. It also suggests that some countries and cultures might not survive.

Barry McLerran is the producer of Demographic Winter, as well as another documentary called Demographic Bomb. As part of our project Shift, he joined us from Salt Lake City, Utah this morning.

Demographic Fear - Kathryn Joyce

Kathryn Joyce has been watching the Demographic Winter phenomenon. And she doesn't like what she sees. She's a journalist and the author of Quiverfull: Inside the Christian Patriarchy Movement. She was in New York City this morning.

Last Word - Christians and Pagans

And the last word this morning went to singer-songwriter Dar Williams. We began the program talking about Wiccans and lunar eclipses and ended it talking about Christianity and demographics. Luckily for us, Dar Williams has a song about how those two groups might reconcile over the holidays.
