Oct 28/10 - Pt 1: Spouses of Sex Offenders

We get a lot of mail at The Current. Some compliments, some complaints and best of all, compelling, riveting stories. So instead of devoting one part of the show to what our listeners had to say ... we've devoted an entire program out of your stories. And we started today with some harrowing feedback about our story on providing support for the spouses of sex offenders.

Today's guest host was Ian Hanomansing and this is a special Letters Edition of The Current.

PART ONE

It's Thursday October 28th.

According to Oilsands giant, Syncrude, at least 350 ducks died after landing in one of its tailings pond.

Currently, Syncrude says there's no need for alarm. The pond is fine.

This is The Current.

Partners of Sex Offenders - Letters

We started this segment with a voicemail we received from one of our listeners. It's in response to an interview we did earlier this week with Dr. Paul Fedoroff, who runs a support group for the spouses of sex offenders.

Now just to be clear, Dr. Fedoroff doesn't say that the spouses of sex offenders should stay with the people who commit these crimes. He offers support for those who decide to. We aired a clip from our segment.

Our interview with Paul Fedoroff sparked some remarkable stories from our listeners. We wanted to share some of them with you this morning.

*** We should warn you, some of you may find them disturbing. We're withholding the names of all of the people in this segment, in order to protect their privacy. ***

We aired a reading from a letter we received from one of our listeners.

We were surprised by the number of spouses of accused or convicted sex offenders who wanted to tell us their stories. Our next guest is one of them. Again, we're withholding her name to preserve her privacy. She lives in Florida.
