Mike Masnick: Online marketing is all about attention and access

By Paul Jay, CBCNews.ca.

Techdirt's Mike Masnick just finished his presentation at the Mesh conference in Toronto on building a business model in a world of infinite goods ... goods like information and music.

As he has done in the past, Masnick used the example of Trent Reznor and his success in making money from an album he was essentially giving away for free. But Reznor is not the only artist to package his content in unique ways.

Masnick cited the success of Josh Freese, a session musician who enticed fans with some unique add-ons ... including, but not limited to, letting fans take three items from his closet, calling to personally thank the buyer, and sitting down together to eat lasagna made by the wife of a friend.

In a world of freely available music, the scarce resource is attention and access, says Masnick.

Analysis Trump is the fuel, but Republican Party will burn itself down: Neil Macdonald
No, Donald Trump is not going to be U.S. president, or invade Mexico, or deport all immigrants, or disenfranchise women voters, or drop nuclear bombs in Syria and Iraq.
