Google and groups representing U.S. authors and publishers have asked for more time to revise their agreement over Google's plan to digitize millions of books.
Google, the Authors Guild and the Association of American Publishers were given until Monday to update their agreement after the U.S. Department of Justice expressed anti-trust concerns.
A New York federal judge has agreed to extend that deadline until Friday.
Hundreds of authors, academics, librarians, public interest groups and Google's rivals have expressed concern over the Google Books deal, which governs copyright and compensation for writers as Google digitizes millions of books and makes them accessible through its search engine.
One of the main concerns is that Google is contravening copyright laws by digitizing books not in the public domain.
Google and the organizations representing U.S. authors and publishers had signed an agreement last fall, but there are objections that the deal gives Google too much control over digital books worldwide.
