NHL games, Canadian shows to be available on iTunes

Apple launches video downloading in Canada with slate of TV programs

National Hockey League games are among the first programming to be offered through Apple's iTunes video download service to launch Wednesday, Apple Canada has announced.

CBC-TV's Little Mosque on the Prairie will be among the TV programs Canadians can find through the iTunes Canada web store.

Apple began offering videos for download in the U.S. in September 2006, but the service has not been available in Canada until this week.

The top NHL games for the 2007-2008 season, a selection of Stanley Cup classics and a five-game bundle of great Stanley Cup final games are to be made available, Apple said in a statement.

CBC comedies Little Mosque on the Prairie and The Rick Mercer Report, and reality programming No Opportunity Wasted and Dragons' Den are also available immediately.

Other programs to be offered by iTunes include:

Corner Gas.
Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Robson Arms.
Drawn Together.
The Sarah Silverman Program.
South Park.
Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The Hills.

Television shows are $1.99 per episode in Canada.

Downloads from iTunes are near-DVD quality, Apple Canada said, and can be viewed on a PC or Mac, iPod nano with video, fifth-generation iPod, iPod classic or on a widescreen TV with Apple TV.
