icon_speaker_c.gifListen to this episode

Les Fiancees de la Tour Eiffel, Marc Chagall
Two men from very different worlds each with something to say about the link between Art and Soul.  Can you tell which one was the artist Marc Chagall and which one the monk, Thomas Merton?

Art seems to me to be above all a state of soul. All souls are sacred, the soul of all the bipeds in every quarter of the globe.

Art is not an end in itself. It introduces the soul into a higher spiritual order - which it expresses and in some sense explains.

Maybe it doesnt matter who said what Marc Chagall and Thomas Merton were expressing very similar ideas about the spiritual power of Art.  Just for the record Chagalls quote was the first.

Today were exploring the intricate relationship between art and soul.  We have a feature interview with the world-renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman.

We hear from Rosemary Phelan a former nurse who witnessed a healing influence of music on her patients.

And Mary Hynes talks to Rev. Jennie Hogan about how art galleries are replacing traditional places of worship for those seeking spiritual inspiration.
