Richard Holloway was the Bishop of Edinburgh from 1986 - 2000. Debate over his liberal views about homosexuality in the church, shook his faith in the church and in part led to his retirement in 2000. Shortly before retiring, he published what may be his best-known book: Godless Morality: Keeping Religion Out of Ethics (1999).
In his role as a writer, Richard Holloway explores what it means to be human.
Bishop Holloway's most recent book is Between the Monster and the Saint: Reflections on the Human Condition, published by Canongate Books.
