Compassionate Life/West Coast Mennonite Choir
On his death bed, the poet Aldous Huxley
was asked to sum up what he had learned in life. His answer?
To be kinder whenever possible. Sunday on Tapestry, Mary
Hynes talks with Marc
Barasch ,
who has also thought a great deal about kindness and compassion.
Barasch says we should forget about survival of the fittest
— the way to succeed in life is through survival of
the kindest. Marc Ian Barasch's book is called Field Notes
on the Compassionate Life: A Search for the Soul of Kindness.
It's published by Rodale Books.
Also, a portrait of the West Coast Mennonite Chamber
Choir, a group of singers who sing for sheer joy,
but who are also committed to helping others. The choir donates
all the money it makes to charity. Find out how to buy their
music at their website.
Music featured on the program:
Message of Love performed by The Pretenders.
Weinachten and In the Bleak Midwinter by
the West Coast Mennonite Chamber Choir (and
excerpts of other carols in rehearsal).
