Michael Muhammad Knight's first novel has become known as a Catcher in the Rye for young Muslims. When he wrote it (and photocopied it), he couldn't have known what would happen next.
At first, the book, called The Taqwacores, was passed along from one reader to the next, tattered photocopies falling apart. Then it was published to great reviews. The words 'manifesto' and 'groundbreaking' were used to describe it.
Mary Hynes speaks with Michael Muhammad Knight, this week on Tapestry.
