Mary Hynes's guest this week is Karen Armstrong; academic, author and a former nun. Armstrong has written more than 20 books on faith and the major religions. Now she has set her sights on nothing less than God. She wants people to think differently about God, and argues that the best place to start, is to forget much of what we think we know about religion. She also suggests we look back to ancient religious practices for clues about what has been lost in the realm of faith.Armstrong also created the Charter for Compassion. The Charter is an online document that calls on people to live more compassionately with each other. Thousands of people from more than 100 countries contributed to the charter. It was then crafted by religious leaders and thinkers from around the world.
Karen Armstrong's latest book is The Case for God, published by Knopf Canada.
