The Reverend Al Green/The Real World of Dreams
Al Green rose to stardom in the 1970's with hits
like Tired of Being Alone, I'm Still in Love With You
and Let's Stay Together. But Green began to see the world of
pop music as decadent and destructive. One night after a concert, he
woke up in his hotel room shouting ''Hallelujah!'' He'd found God. He
bought a church building and was ordained pastor of the Full Gospel
Tabernacle in Memphis.
Today, the Reverend Al preaches almost every Sunday. And although for years he sang nothing but gospel music, at the age of 62 he's back with a new album; Lay It Down.
Has he managed - after all these years - to bring the sensual and the spiritual together?
Join Mary Hynes for her spirited conversation with the Reverend Al Green.
Also this week: Jeff Warren explores the ideas of Rodger Kamenetz, who believes that we can heal ourselves by focusing on our dreams. Kamenetz explains how dream therapy helped him change his own behaviour, and how to apply the techniques of dream therapy.
