From the beginning of the Industrial Revolution to today, new discoveries and new technology have led to major shifts in the way our species interacts with the Earth. This phase of the planet's geological history is usually called the Holocene, a period that encompasses the rise of humanity since the last ice age. But this video from Globaia argues that we have entered the "Anthropocene", a phase where humans shape the planet's geological and environmental future.

The video, commissioned by the Planet Under Pressure conference, features a stunning animated look at how human networks have spread across the Earth over the last two and a half centuries, and a voiceover that focuses on the relationship between our species and the planet. Check it out below:
