When Wes Bentley was in the red chair, he talked to George about his struggles with addiction, and the benefits of coming clean about it. George played this clip last night on the show following the news that Philip Seymour Hoffman had died after an apparent drug overdose.
Bentley told George that it really helped him to hear other actors talk about going through some of the same difficulties.
"It's a big part of why I do talk about it in public," Bentley said. "I would be strung out all night, or all morning, and I'd see Robert Downey, Jr. on TV after he had cleaned up, or someone else talking about being sober — I think [baseball player] Josh Hamilton was another example.... They had been doing the same kind of stuff I was doing. I saw them, that they could make it, that they could be successful again and happy again — that's where I'm at now. I'm getting some success, I'm happy. I'm happier than I've ever been."
