As part of Black History Month rapper/actress Michie Mee taught us something about the stand Nova Scotian Viola Desmond took against segregation in 1946.
"When I think about Black History Month I think about Rosa Parks," said Michie Mee. "But nine years earlier a brave Canadian woman took a similar stand of her own.
"Viola Desmond was in a movie theatre in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia where she was told she would have to sit in the balcony as the main floor was reserved for white patrons. When she refused, Viola Desmond was arrested, held overnight in jail, and fined $20."
