Helen Fielding, the creator of the Bridget Jones character, was in the red chair to talk about her career, her signature character's latest adventures and her new book, Mad About The Boy.
Fielding used the opportunity to explain how she goes from silly to serious in her work.
"I've always been attracted to the tragedy and comedy in life 'cause I think jokes come from serious things," said Fielding. "And when the first Bridget [book] came out a lot of people complained that she was silly. And I said, 'My first book was about a woman running a refugee camp in Africa... and nobody bought that book.' But I think there's light notes, there's dark notes and the thing about Bridget is she knows how to get through it."
