Two years ago, Toronto's mayor Rob Ford declared March 28, 2011 'Neil Young Day' in the city.
The official proclamation justified the choice this way: "Neil Young is one of the most gifted, influential and celebrated singer-songwriters in rock and roll history. He is a prolific artist with a career spanning more than 40 years, five JUNO Awards, two Hall of Fame inductions and countless chart-topping singles and albums."
That about sums it up.
Although Uncle Neil's official day in T.O. happened back in 2011, we'd like to take this opportunity (any opportunity, really) to celebrate the man.
So in honour of Neil Young Day, here's one of Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies' best stories ever.
Ed is a huge Neil Young fan. So when he got the chance to play Neil's Bridge School Benefit, he was happy to do it.
One thing he didn't necessarily expect: getting to hang out with Neil himself, and Crazyhorse to boot. But it happened... And Neil was a great host.
