Humans only started discovering planets outside our solar system pretty recently: the first confirmed detection of a planet beyond our system happened in 1992. In the twenty years since, astronomers have discovered a total of 778 new worlds beyond the edge of our solar system. And now Randall Munroe, the comic artist behind the website xkcd.com, has drawn all the planets we've discovered so far, to scale.
Our solar system is right in the middle of the graphic, along with a message from Munroe, which expresses his feelings about our species' new discoveries: "This is an exciting time". Check out the image below (click for full-size):
