Mind-Bending Body Paintings Recreate Classic Artwork On Skin

It's a little hard to figure out where the painting stops and the person begins in these works by artists Chadwick Gray and Laura Spector.

The pair collaborate under the name Chadwick & Spector, and for the most part in these pieces, Chadwick was the "canvas" and Spector did the painting.

Each of these works is based on a classic portrait, which the artists recreate using Chadwick's body as the canvas. The series is called 'Museum Anatomy'.

The resulting images are disorienting at first: it's hard to tell which body parts belong to Chadwick and which have been painted on as part of the portrait.

Creating a connection between historical portraits and contemporary photography seems to be part of the point.

According to the artists' statement, "The recreated paintings of these historic portraits recapture the subjects in their own moment in history. The resulting photographs reveal a unification of art combining antiquity, history and technology in a contemporary context."
