Al Gore Wants To Borrow Your Facebook And Twitter Accounts

How would you feel about giving Al Gore access to your Facebook and Twitter accounts during his "24 Hours of Reality" global wake-a-thon for climate change?

As reported by Reuters today, Al Gore's Climate Reality Project plans to update the climate crisis presentation Gore gave in the Academy Award-winning An Inconvenient Truth with a marathon broadcast of new facts and ideas for change. 24 presenters in 24 time zones will deliver Gore's new multimedia lecture every hour on the hour, beginning Wednesday, September 14 at 7pm CT.

"There will be 200 new slides arguing the connection between more extreme weather and climate change," said Trewin Restorick, chief executive of the event's UK partner Global Action Plan.

"There will be a full-on assault on climate skeptics, exploring where they get their funding from."

In addition to those 200 new slides of damning environmental evidence, Gore's team wants to leverage social media during the 24-hour event in an unusual way.

Climate Reality is asking like-minded folk to donate either their Facebook or Twitter accounts (or both) to the project, in an effort to spread the word about the multi-presenter performance in real time.

Here's what that will mean for people who decide to take part, according to the Climate Reality site:

Starting a day before the event (Sept 13 Central Time) you grant us permission to post on your behalf. We will only post content relevant to 24 Hours of Reality and climate change, and we won't post more than a few times an hour. You'll still be able to tweet and use Facebook normally, and you can revoke our access anytime through your Facebook and Twitter settings. After September 15 (CT) we will stop posting any content on your Facebook or Twitter feed and you can revoke our access.

As of this writing, 877,079 Facebook and Twitter accounts have been signed over to the project, so clearly there is a good amount of support for Climate Reality's plan. What do you think?
