VIDEO OF THE DAY: This Elephant Plays The Harmonica

Shanthi is a thirty-six year old Asian elephant from Sri Lanka who lives at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, D.C., and according to one of the zookeepers, she's surprisingly musical. She enjoys rhythmically banging on things and rubbing her leg up and down brushes to create sounds. And it turns out she also enjoys playing the harmonica.

In the video below, Shanthi shows off her skills with the instrument. She seems to compose her own songs, which appear to have a structure with a beginning, middle and end. The keeper is eager to emphasize that Shanthi is never coerced into performing with the harmonica - in fact, she often plays when there's no one around. Check out her skills:
