VIDEO OF THE DAY: Stargazing in Northern Britain

When life gets hectic, it's good to take a minute and remember where you are: on the surface of a planet that's hurtling through the beautiful reaches of outer space. Nothing reminds us of that fact quite as effectively as the night sky. But there are a couple of obstacles to seeing the stars - a lot of us are too busy to head out into the countryside where they're most visible, and thanks to light pollution the stars are getting harder to see in the night sky.

That's why it's nice to come across a video like this. Shot by astronomer Martin Whipp, it's 2:30 of pure, uncomplicated time lapse bliss, with a chilled out soundtrack to match. He took the video at Kielder Star Camps in Northumberland, England, just one mile south of the Scottish border.

Alongside some beautiful images of the stars, he showcases the wide open countryside in the region. So if you can spare two-and-a-half minutes, enjoy some stargazing:
