The BBC just polled more than 26,000 people around the world, asking them to rate 16 countries and the European Union.

And guess what? The most popular country in the world right now is... Germany.

The Germans have a 59 per cent positive rating, while only 15 per cent of those polled said they had "mainly negative" feelings toward the country.

It seems Germany is well-liked in some surprising places, as well: in Spain, which received a bailout largely controlled by the German government, 68 per cent of people said they have a favourable view of their fellow Europeans.

Britain and France both gave the Germans glowing reviews as well, with 78 per cent and 81 per cent respectively saying they're pro-German.

As interesting as the German results may be, there's other important news: Canada came in a close second, with a 55 per cent positive rating (and only 13 per cent saying they had "mainly negative" feelings about us, the lowest negative rating of any country in the poll).

Other countries that experienced significant changes in position since last year include India and China (positive views of both countries "have fallen sharply around the world over the last year," the BBC says).

Views of China are at their lowest levels since the poll was first conducted in 2005, after rising for several years.

The least popular country on the list is Iran. Only 15 per cent of people polled said the country has a positive influence, while 59 per cent view Iran negatively.
