The UN World Food Programme (WFP) is working with the cast and producers of 'The Hunger Games' to raise awareness about hunger around the world. Through a new website and a public service announcement, fans of the film - and Suzanne Collins's 'Hunger Games' books - are urged to help end hunger, which the WFP calls "the world's greatest solvable problem".
And judging by advance ticket sales, there are lots of fans out there: 'The Hunger Games' has broken the record, previously held by the third 'Twilight' film, for first day ticket presales. The film doesn't open until March 23rd.
The WFP/Hunger Games site features a PSA with three primary cast members from the film, Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson, as well as a WFP Hunger quiz, some useful links to information about world hunger, and several donation options.
The WFP is also raising awareness about poverty and hunger with a series of videos made by Molly, a 12-year-old girl growing up in the Mathare Slum in Nairobi. You can view all of those videos at her YouTube page, and check out the latest episode below:
