If you didn't notice, today's Google doodle is a tribute to the late American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald - who would have turned 96 today.

With her incredible voice and range, she earned nicknames such as the "First Lady of Song" and the "Queen of Jazz".

This video illustrates why.

Fitzgerald was perhaps best known for her series of Songbook albums, celebrating songwriters such as Duke Ellington, Cole Porter and the Gershwins.

During her career, which spanned 59 years, she sold 40 million records, won 13 Grammy Awards and received the National Medal of Arts from U.S. President Ronald Reagan and the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George H. W. Bush.

Fitgerald performed in her final concert at New York's Carnegie Hall in 1991. She died in 1996 at the age of 79.

In this video from 1969, she shows off her amazing ability at scat singing.
