Rachel Sussman has been documenting old things — really old things — for a while now. Since 2004, the Brooklyn-based photographer has travelled the globe, taking pictures of any and all life forms that are more than 2,000 years old. The result is a collection called "The Oldest Living Things In The World," which is also the title of her soon-to-be-released book. Sussman's portraits are striking, partly for their artistic composition, and partly for their subjects, many of which will leave you dumbfounded and running for Wikipedia. Sussman was also just awarded the prestigious 2014 Guggenheim fellowship for her work. And in 2010, she gave a fascinating TED Talk on the subject of ancient living organisms, which you can watch here:
