Since 2011, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa has been running a contest called So You Want to Be an Artist?, for which teens aged 16 to 19 are invited to submit their artwork. Earlier today, the Gallery announced this year's 15 finalists, culled from 117 submissions (12 were selected by online vote, and three by a panel of experts, to include those "who may not have large networks on social media"). All 15 finalists will have their artwork on display at the Gallery this summer, and in mid-August, a jury will announce the top three. The grand prize: a behind-the-scenes tour of the Gallery, as well as a studio visit with Gatineau painter Jennifer Lefort and $500 for art supplies. In the slideshow above, we've collected the paintings, drawings and photographs from the finalists, and you can see all the submissions on the So You Want to Be an Artist? website.
