Sarah McLachlan on the F-Word, ‘Feminism’
April 3, 2012
submit to reddit

Sarah McLachlan on why her attempt to resurrect Lilith Fair didn't work... and why (despite what some young people might think) feminism is still relevant today.

GS: "The mindset of a 24 year old ticket buyer today... is their relationship to feminism a different thing than it was back then?"

SM: "Yes, I think there's a little more complacency with the younger women coming up today. I'm probably going to get myself in trouble here... I think that so much ground work has already been laid, and there's this sense of ease, like "We're all equal now"... but no - there's still such a ceiling, and there's so many opportunities and jobs that aren't open to women and they're not getting paid as much."

GS: "They're not getting equal pay in this country..."

SM: "No, they're not getting equal pay in this country - and if you look at that, it's pretty much across the board in most industries."
